WTO urged Ukraine to remove the import surcharge no later than the end of 2015
In a meeting of the Committee on Balance-of-Payments Restrictions on April 28, the WTO members consulted with Ukraine on the import surcharge it recently adopted for balance-of-payments reasons, and urged Ukraine to remove the additional import duties of 5-10% no later than the end of 2015, informed the report on participation of the Ukrainian delegation at the WTO meeting, published at the website of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.
According to the announcement, the Ukrainian delegation, together with a representative from the International Monetary Fund gave an overview of Ukraine's economic situation, including the macroeconomic indicators and balance-of-payments issues.
At the same time, some member countries of the WTO claimed that the surcharge is causing a burden on the Ukrainian exporters.
The Committee will resume its consultations in June.
