Ukraine can significantly expand exports of agricultural products due to assistance of Poland and Lithuania – Andriy Dykun

Blocking the chains of exporting agricultural products because of the war has led to a lack of working capital among farmers in the midst of the sowing campaign. Export potential can be expanded by shipping Ukrainian cargoes to Lithuanian ports through Poland, but it should be officially supported by the countries.

The Chairman of the Ukrainian AgriCouncil (UAC) Andriy Dykun took part in a meeting organized by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, chaired by the Minister Mykola Solsky, with the Ambassador of Lithuania to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas and the Agriculture Minister Kestutis Navickas.

«Blocking grain exports has affected financial situation of agricultural producers. Ukraine could use Lithuanian ports, which are currently unloaded, and Lithuania is interested in cooperating with Ukraine. Using Lithuania’s ports, we could either export agricultural products or get fuel and fertilizers. Today it is possible to ship goods to Lithuania only through Poland, so it is necessary to develop a relevant tripartite agreement between Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland,» Andriy Dykun said.

According to the UAC Chairman, Ukraine exported only 200,000 tons of agricultural products in March, but with better opportunities this figure could reach 1.5−2 million tons.

«We have high hopes for cooperation with Lithuania,» Andriy Dykun added.

The idea of the tripartite agreement on the export of agricultural products was supported by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solsky. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy hopes that the pilot trains for Lithuanian ports through Poland will depart in the near future.
