There is no food shortage in the country
There will not be any interruption of the food supply to retailers and the price situation will remain stable. This was announced by Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food during «Open Studio» at First National Channel. The Minister assured that the food industry operated smoothly and there were not any ground food security threat.
«The capacity of Ukrainian producers exceeds demand. So, bakeries will supply as much bread as much as consumers buy. Today, retail chains have increased the order of bread supply by 100 tons per day. The range and volume of bread are provided by stores with own mini-bakery,» said the Minister.
The Minister said that Kyiv was provided with goods in the ordinary and usual course. Thus, stocks of food products in retail chains and warehouses of retailers are enough for an average of 20 days. Cereals, sugar and flour sold by weight are in the greatest demand.
However, according to the Minister, panic buying of food products in the afternoon on February 20, decreased the offer of certain goods in certain retail chains. In particular, bread and some kinds of cereals in such stores as «Silpo» and «ATB». Better situation was at «Auchan», «Furshet», «Velyka Kyshenya» and «Billa». These shops did not increase the prices. The store continue promotional offers. In addition, there is a stable price situation and sufficient supply of goods at the food markets of the city.
Mykola Prysyazhnyuk also said that the Agrarian Fund supplied flour, groats, sugar to retail network and baking houses according to the orders. The Minister gave a number of instructions to prevent destabilization of the food market.
«Kyiv city and Kyiv Region State Administrations together with State Road Inspection should provide free movement of goods. Commercial networks should increase the volumes of ordered products due to the consumers’ demand,» said the Minister.
