The number of cows in all categories of farms decreased by 13% in 2022. Analytical results of the year

As of January 1, the cattle population amounted to 2.3 million heads, which is 12.6% less than last year.

This was reported by the analyst of the Association of Milk Producers Yana Linetska.

In particular, the expert notes that 0.93 million cattle were housed in industrial farms, which is 6.4% less than in 2021. Households housed 1.38 million head of cattle (-13.5%).

Including, the number of cows in all categories of farms decreased by 13.1% — to 1.34 million heads.

Industrial producers, according to preliminary estimates of the State Statistics Service, housed 387,600 cows, which is 8% less than last year. Homestead farms housed 953.8 thousand cows, which is 12.5% lower than last year's figures.

«The average productivity of industrial cows decreased by 1.5% compared to 2021 — to 6,762 kg/head,» Yana Linetska emphasizes.

The industry suffered the greatest losses in livestock and production weight in the first months of the war. The occupation of the territories and military actions had the effect that a large number of livestock were simply destroyed by the russian invaders, and part of the economy was forced to be sold for nothing, at best, to be transported to safer regions. Interruptions in the supply of fodder and veterinary drugs, as well as the supply of electricity, also had an impact on the productivity of cows, which ultimately led to a reduction in the total weight of production.
