Russian farmers had increased milk production
Data on production of dairy products in Russia confirm the general tendencies which are observed in the market: at the expense of reduction in production of fresh milk products, processors were able to increase the production of cheeses, cheese products, milk powder and butter.
Russian Federal Service of State Statistics published official data on production in November.
In January – November 2014, production of processed milk remained almost at the level of January – November 2013 (-0.8%), production of fresh milk products decreased 1.6%, cheese and cheese products – grew 12.4%, butter and milk powder - increased 13.4 % and 29.6%, respectively.
The Ministry of Agriculture Nikolay Fyodorov ascribed an increase of milk yields this year to the merit of his department: if there were no efforts of the ministry, agricultural enterprises should not increase production by 2.5 %, and farms – by 6.5%. But the minister has not mentioned that in Russia milk price has been almost the highest in the world recent years. That fact stimulated investors to invest in development of dairy farming. At the same time, state support was essential also. If management was professional, such high support should show good results a long time ago.
