President Poroshenko called for the introduction of the land market
President Petro Poroshenko called for the introduction of the market of agricultural land with the right of sale and purchase of plots. He said that the inability to buy land constrains investment in the agricultural sector.
He called for the introduction of the land market in his speech on the internal and external situation before the deputees of Ukrainian Parliament.
«The absence of the right of the free sale and purchase of agricultural land, of course, constrains investment in the agricultural sector, decreases and violates the rights of the villagers and, by the wat, underestimates the rental price, pulling out of the villagers' pockets last kopiyka. It is axiomatic. But I am aware of the public opinion on this issue in Ukraine and also position of the majority of parliamentary factions. I respect their views, but, the esteemed MPs, this is your competence: either bury your heads in the sand and do nothing to make changes, or do all the necessary work on creation of the land market in Ukraine, but take all the safety measures to prevent any negative consequences”, — said the President.
Note: Until 2017 in Ukraine there is a moratorium on sale of farmland. In the spring of 2016, the then Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Olexiy Pavlenko announced a pilot project for the sale of agricultural land. But then, the Ministry of Agriculture administration has changed, and since then there has been no information about this project available.
