Number of cattle has increased by 3.4% since the beginning of the year

 

As of April, 1 there are 5.2 million heads of cattle in all categories of farms in Ukraine, it is 3.4% more than the same period of last year. The main increase of the cattle (5.2%) has occurred in the farm cooperatives. Such increase happened due to the payment of subsidies for the young cattle maintenance and keep. Since the beginning of the year, the farmers received UAH 63.8 million of grants. This was announced by Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.

«Today’s situation is stable. There is a growth dynamics of the livestock. As of April 1, 2013 there are almost 5.2 million heads of cattle in Ukraine. This is 3.4% more than last year. We have the main and very important growth due to the farm cooperatives,» Mykola Prysyazhnyuk mentioned.

The Minister has added that as of April 1, 2013 in Ukraine the number of cattle in the farm cooperatives was increased by 5.2% compared to the last year. Government programs, including the payment of young cattle maintenance and keep, contributed this.

«Starting this program in June 2012, we have nowadays good results because for the first time since our independence we have stopped the livestock decline and have even its growth. This year, we continue to pay subsidies to farmers for maintaining and keep of young cattle. And as of April 1, 2013 it was paid 63.8 million,» Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said. The Minister has also informed that nearly 90 thousand individuals have applied to get compensations for preserved 121.4 thousand heads of cattle. Moreover, this year almost 30 thousand of farmers applied to get such help.
