Milk products become unaffordable

Processors are switching from premium segment to whole milk products.

Market basket of ordinary Ukrainian becomes poorer. The reason — is the currency depreciation. Thus, domestic consumers have begun to abandon expensive chees and buy cheaper dairy products such as kefir, cream cheese.

«Market basket of ordinary Ukrainian becomes poorer due to the devaluation of hryvnia, so premium cheeses such as „Gruyere“, „Mozzarella“, „Gouda“, „Maasdam“ becomes more expensive by about 10%: „Gruyere“ — 522.27 hrn/kg, „Mozzarella“ — 204 hrn/kg, „Maasdam“ — 172.17 hrn/kg, „Emmental“ — 301 hrn/kg, „Roquefort“ — 433.33 hrn/kg», — said the analytical department of the consulting company «Dykun».

The top three most popular dairy products, traditionally, are milk, butter and cheese «Russian», though even the demand for these products significantly decreased — instead of milk Ukrainian increasingly choose cheaper kefir or yogurt.

This indicates a reorientation of demand and production, and therefore closure of some companies is predictable. Processors are switching from premium segment to whole milk products.

Andrii Yarmak, economist of the Investment Department of FAO will tell more details about the situation on the milk market, its methods of prognostication in the frameworks of the VIII International Dairy Congress, which will be held on March, 3-5 in the exhibition center «KyivExpoPlaza», Kyiv, Salyutna 2-B str.
