Food embargo
Food embargo is extended until the end of 2019
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a decree to extend the food embargo against countries that have imposed anti-Russian sanctions until December 31 2019. The decree «On extending certain special economic measures to ensure security of the Russian Federation» was published on the official portal of legal acts.
In August 2014 Russia banned the import of products — in particular, cheese, meat and fruit — from the EU, the US and other countries. This was done in response to the sanctions imposed on Russia because of its role in the conflict in Donbas and the annexation of the Crimea. Sanctions products confiscated at the Russian borders are destroyed.
In addition, according to the text of the presidential decree, measures to destroy sanctions products imported into the Russian Federation have been extended.
It should be reminded that according to the Rosselkhoznadzor from August 6, 2015 to July 9, 2018, the Department destroyed almost 25.1 thousand tons of products that illegally came from the countries that are under the Russian food embargo.
