«Feed mill is the missing link in the chain of own feed production», — Oleksandr Ostapenko, Farming enterpise «Promin»

Current economic recession in not the first one in the life of Ukrainian milk producers. However, the experienced farm owners find resources for further development even in the challenging economic environment and pursue a preemptive tactic. The main thing is establishing appropriate priority.

Farming enterprise «Promin», located in Mykolaiv region, is an example of a successful strategy of leadership under the crisis. Its top managers believe — if you are engaged in cattle farming as well as crop and especially soybean growing you should have own production of feeds to achieve closed production cycle. Therefore, the construction of the own feed mill is being under completion there.

The production lines will be fully automated and produce both dry and pelleted feeds, premixes, protein-vitamin supplements. Moreover, there will be a unique for Ukraine production line for flaked wheat, corn and oats.

The project started in April 2013. Turkish company Yemmak turned to be a technical consultant and equipment supplier. The daily capacity of the feed mill will be 300 tons of dry and 120 tons of pelleted feeds to be supplied to own dairy and pig farms as well as other farms of the region. According to Oleksandr Ostapenko, now the delivery of purchased animal feeds is UAH250 per ton. Therefore, own feed production will reduce the cost of livestock production considerably. It will be a kind of synergy of production, technology, logistics and distribution.

Currently, the installation and adjustment works are in the process. The full technological support, software setup and monitoring the technology implementation are provided and controlled by the engineer who is the company’s representative.

In October 2015, extruded soybean production line will be launched. About 2.5 t/h of soybean cake (oil 7%, protein 44%) and 5.0 t/h of full-fat soy beans will be produced. It will be followed by launching the production line for dry feeds. The full technological launching is scheduled on November 2015.

The monitoring and evaluating feed quality will be conducted by own laboratory for testing raw materials and feeds produced.
