Farmers harvested nearly 24 million tons of grain
Harvesting is in full swing in Ukraine. Thus, farmers have already harvested nearly 24 million tons of grain. Wheat is threshed most of all — 17.2 million tones and barley is 5.6 million tones. In addition, the record harvest of maize, at the rate of over 25 million tons, is expected. This was announced today at a press conference by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
«This year harvest was formed in weather conditions that were significantly different from previous years. These are wintering as well as shortened sowing time. However, field works are organized at a high level. Today, farmers are ahead of last year’s schedule of harvesting. In total nearly 24 million tons of grain has been collected, of which — 17.2 million tons of wheat, 5.6 million tons of barley and 341 thousand tons of rye, »- said the Minister. Mykola Prysyazhnyuk also noted that the acreage and yield of wheat is gradually increasing in Ukraine. Thus, this year it grew by over 30%.
«The potential to increase the yield has not been exhausted. Today companies with higher productivity than average by 50% and even 100% are not uncommon in Ukraine.»- said the Head of the department. Also, according to the Minister, a significant part of the gross grain harvest in recent years takes maize, which is one of the main components of fodder balance forming in the country. And this year maize will be in demand in the markets of Asia, particularly China.
«Ukrainian producers actively react to the market needs. This year corn fields take nearly 5 million hectares, and over the last 10 years its yield increased almost threefold. And this year, we expect that farmers will harvest more than 25 million tons of corn, which will be an absolute record in Ukraine », - said Mykola Prysyazhnyuk. We remind that the Minister in frames of his business trips is attending the regions and controlling the harvesting of grain.
