EU set duty-free import quotas for Ukrainian grains

The European Parliament adopted the draft Regulation on reduction or cancellation of the customs duties on commodities imported from Ukraine. Thus, Ukraine is able to supply 950 thsd tonnes of wheat and flour, and 250 thsd tonnes of barley to the European Union on duty-free basis in the period of autonomous trade preferences (until October 31).

As for maize supplies, the quotas for the grain shipments are set at 400 thsd tonnes. According to Taras Kachka, Vice-President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, the reporting volume is provided for such case if the EU decides to raise the import duties on maize for all grain exporters. At the same time, T.Kachka assured that until the end of the current season there are not expected any changes in the terms of maize trading with the EU.

We should note that in 2013 Ukraine exported nearly 7.1 mln tonnes of grains, including nearly 1 mln tonnes of wheat and 50 thsd tonnes of barley, to the European Union countries.
