As of May 1, Ukraine planted spring crops throughout 12.3 mln ha – State Statistics Service
Taking into account replanting for the perished areas of winter crops and perennial grasses, as of May 1, 2014, Ukraine planted spring crops throughout the areas of 12.3 mln ha, an increase of 9.6% compared with the last year index on the same date, declared the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on May 14.
In particular, agrarians planted grains and pulses (excluding maize) throughout 2.5 mln ha (down 6.6% compared with 2013), including barley — 1.8 mln ha (down 10.7%).
Agrarians expanded the planted area under maize grain (up 12.1%), sugar beet (up 29.8%), sunflower seed (up 12.2%), soybeans (up almost 1.5 times). The areas under rapeseed were reduced by 39.8%.
Besides, agrarians planted sunflower seed throughout 227.1 thsd ha, spring rapeseed — 14.8 thsd ha.
