A fall in milk production is pushing up purchase prices

The increase in raw milk prices was influenced by a reduction in raw milk receipts for processing from dairy farms, a sharp drop in income in households as a result of the intense heat and the energy crisis in Ukraine, — reports the analyst of the Association of Milk Producers, Georhiy Kukhaleishvili.

The average purchase price of Extra Grade milk as of August 7 amounted to 14.62 UAH/kg without VAT, which is 0.50 UAH more than a month ago. The price range for this grade in farms varies from 13.60 to 15.20 UAH/kg without VAT. The upper limit of the price range increased by 0.90 UAH for the last month. The lower limit of the price range increased by 0.40 UAH.

Higher Grade costs an average of 14.62 UAH/kg without VAT (+0.50 UAH). Prices for Higher Grade milk range from 13.60 to 15.20 UAH/kg without VAT. Compared to the monitoring results of the first half of July, the upper limit of the price range increased by 0.90 UAH, and the lower limit increased by 0.40 UAH.

The average price of Grade I milk was 13.52 UAH/kg without VAT, which is 0.32 UAH more compared to the price in the first half of July. The minimum price in farms was 12.65 UAH/kg, and the maximum price was 14.05 UAH/kg. Over the last month, the lower limit of the price range has not changed, and the upper limit has increased by 0.90 UAH.

Accordingly, the weighted average price of the three grades amounted to 14.25 UAH/kg without VAT, which is 0.44 UAH more than a month ago.

Giorgii Kukhaleishvili notes that the reduction in the supply of raw milk for processing during the period of intense heat in July caused another increase in purchase prices at the beginning of August. Prolonged power outages due to the energy crisis in Ukraine as a result of missile strikes by the russian occupiers led to interruptions in ventilation systems on dairy farms and heatstrokes in cows, which reduced productivity by 20−30%.
