71% of Ukrainian consumers buy milk on the market

This was announced by Yuliya Volokh, Deputy General Director of the company «Taylor Nelson Sofres Ukraine» (TNS in Ukraine) in her report «What do impoverished Ukrainian consumers want?» within the framework of the second session of the IX all-Ukrainian conference «Dairy business — 2016».

According to the expert, in 2015, the level of welfare of Ukrainian citizens has significantly decreased. The Deputy also noted that the research data is based on surveys of urban residents.

«Now, 31% of respondents said that they have enough money to buy food but they have serious difficulties with buying clothes and other products (in 2016), in previous years this figure was lower," - said Yuliya Volokh.

One should pay attention that since 2015 consistently negative consumer sentiment is dominated. Deputy General Director of TNS in Ukraine noted that in addition to income on the mood of the consumer is influenced by socio-cultural factors. Also at equal level in the South and West the sentiment in the Western regions are more optimistic.

«During the last three years a number of people who save on food is growing. This also affects the dairy market. Many respondents note that over the past year, they refused the usual brand of milk because of the price increase. In Kiev, the percentage of such «refusals» is 44%. Also, the respondents began to buy more often products from local producers," - said Yuliya Volokh.

According to the expert, 71% of consumers surveyed in Ukraine buy milk on the market. She also noted the fact that the smaller the city the more common it is; in big cities, however, this trend is not so common. Those who buy the products on the market, do believe that it is a genuine product, people are sure that dairy producers add antibiotics, additives, etc.
