Milk prices in Ukraine have stabilized

The domestic market has seen a relative stabilization of raw milk prices. However, there are risks of further price declines due to reduced supplies of powdered milk and cheese products, the introduction of protectionist measures in export markets, and the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, reports Georgy Kukhaleyshvili, an analyst of the Association of Milk Producers.
The average purchase price of Extra Grade milk as of April 23 was 16.15 UAH/kg excluding VAT, which is 0.20 UAH less than a month ago. The price range for this grade in farms varies from 15.50 to 16.50 UAH/kg excluding VAT. The lower and upper limits of the price range decreased by 0.20 UAH.
Higher Grade costs an average of 15.95 UAH/kg excluding VAT (-0.20 UAH). Prices for Higher Grade milk range from 15.30 to 16.20 UAH/kg excluding VAT. Based on the monitoring results of the second half of last month, the lower limit of the price range decreased by 0.20 UAH, and the upper limit decreased by 0.10 UAH.
The average price for Grade I milk was 15.60 UAH/kg excluding VAT and decreased by 0.05 UAH compared to the second half of the previous month. The minimum price in farms was 15.00 UAH/kg and did not change over the past month. The maximum price was 15.80 UAH/kg and decreased by 0.20 UAH.
Accordingly, the weighted average price of three grades was 16.00 UAH/kg excluding VAT, which is 0.15 UAH less compared to the previous period.
Georgy Kukhaleyshvili notes that prices for raw milk have stabilized as of the second half of April. The lower and upper price ranges have not changed compared to the first half of the month. There have been point decreases in purchase prices in the middle of the corridor under the influence of an increase in the surplus of raw milk on the domestic market, and the production volumes of dairy products in Ukraine are ahead of the volumes of its sale.
