Imported cheeses and weak demand put pressure on purchase prices

Slow demand for finished products, low prices for exchange-traded goods, and the influx of imported cheeses into Ukraine contribute to the weakening of raw milk prices, reports Georgy Kukhaleyshvili, an analyst at the Milk Producers Association.

The average purchase price of Extra Grade milk as of November 25 was 16.30 UAH/kg excluding VAT, which is 0.95 UAH less than the previous month. The price range for this grade in farms varies from 16.00 to 16.80 UAH/kg excluding VAT.

Higher Grade costs on average 16.10 UAH/kg excluding VAT, which is 0.90 UAH less than the previous month. Prices for Higher Grade milk range from 16.00 to 16.30 UAH/kg excluding VAT.

The average price for Grade I milk was 15.90 UAH/kg excluding VAT and decreased by 0.75 UAH compared to the previous month. The minimum price in farms was 15.80 UAH/kg. The maximum price was 16.00 UAH/kg.

Accordingly, the weighted average price of the three grades was 16.25 UAH/kg excluding VAT, which is 0.92 UAH less compared to the previous month.

Georgy Kukhaleyshvili notes that in Ukraine, the decrease in purchase prices continues due to low demand for raw milk and exchange products. Export volumes of dairy products to the EU are quite low due to weak exchange prices on the European market. Dairy processing enterprises are forced to sell butter and powdered milk at a loss in order to pay off current accounts. The situation on the market this fall is radically different from the «bullish trend» of the fall of 2024, when there was high export demand for finished products, and factories needed more raw milk. This is also reflected in the price of raw milk, so the price of «Extra Grade» milk at the end of November 2025 is 17.2% lower than in the same period in 2024.
