Ukraine: raw milk market in the first half of October

In the first half of October the rising price trend for milk continued, but the maximum value seems to be reached soon.

This was reported by the analyst of the Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine (AMP) Yana Muzychenko.

As it has been expected in the AMP, the average milk price reached the mark of 10 UAH after which stabilization is possible.

There are already first results of statistics on milk production. According to the results of three quarters of this year Ukraine produced 8.1 million tons of milk, which is 0.9% less than last year. In particular, 936.8 thousand tons were produced in September, which is 1.2% less than in September last year.

The total number of cattle as of October 1 is 4.1 million, which is 0.4% less than last year. The number of cows was 2.1 million (-1.9%).

Thus, the average price for Extra Grade milk in the first half of October was 9.88 UAH/ kg (including VAT), which is 3.5% higher than of the same period of the previous year.

Processors pay 9 UAH/kg (+8.7%) for Higher Grade and for Grade I — 8.26 UAH/kg (+1.2%).

At the same time the prices on the shelves are growing. This is due to the milk prices growth, seasonal decline in milk production and the cheapening of the hryvnia against the dollar. The price of milk with fat content 3.2% is 26.09 UAH which is 1% higher than the price of the same period in September. Butter with fat content 82,5% for the same period has grown in price by 2,3% and cost 193 UAH/kg, Russian cheese — by 1.5% and costs 171.5 UAH/kg.
