Raw milk prices in Ukraine have stabilized

 

As of January 22, 2024, the average prices for three grades of raw milk in Ukraine have not changed compared to January 1. The stabilization of purchase prices and the formation of the balance of demand and supply of raw milk on the domestic market were influenced by a certain lull in the post-New Year period, the devaluation of the hryvnia, as well as the appearance of free volumes of raw milk in the country due to force majeure at Kaniv Cheese Factory, — says the analyst of the Association of Milk Producers, Georgy Kukhaleishvili.

The average purchase price of Extra Grade milk as of January 22 was 14.70 UAH/kg without VAT, which is 0.09 UAH higher compared to the price as of December 17, 2023. The price range for this grade in farms varies from 14.00 to 15.20 UAH/kg without VAT. The lower limit of the price range has not changed, and the upper limit has increased by 0.20 UAH for the last month.

Higher Grade costs 14.70 UAH/kg without VAT on average. Over the last month, the price of this grade has increased by 0.09 UAH. Prices for Higher Grade milk range from 14.00 to 15.20 UAH/kg without VAT. The lower limit of the price range has not changed, and the upper limit has increased by 0.20 UAH compared to the second half of December.

The average price of Grade I milk amounted to 13.52 UAH/kg without VAT and increased by 0.03 UAH compared to the results of monitoring on December 17. The minimum price in farms was 13.00 UAH/kg, which is 0.08 UAH more compared to last month. The maximum price for Grade I was 14.28 UAH/kg and did not change over the last month.

Accordingly, the weighted average price of three grades amounted to 14.32 UAH/kg without VAT and increased by 0.07 UAH compared to December 17, but did not change compared to January 1.

George Kukhaleishvili notes that in January 2023, the level of purchase prices in Ukraine was stable, as the market maintained a balance of supply and demand for raw milk during the month. Price stabilization was facilitated by a seasonal decrease in demand for milk from processing enterprises in the period after the New Year holidays. Since the beginning of January, milk prices have not changed either on the primary or on the secondary market.
