embargo
The expansion of the embargo could have a negative impact on consumer demand

The list of sanctioned products can be expanded. The need for such a measure was stated in the Federal customs service (FCS). The dairy market participants did not support the expansion of the list of embargoes.

We will remind, earlier in the FCS it was declared that violators import the forbidden products with use of goods of cover, indicating other country of origin and by re-marking of goods. The FCS sent a letter to the Ministry of agriculture with a proposal to expand the list of agricultural products and food prohibited for import to Russia. It is proposed to limit supplies of live animals, meat, fish, dairy products and others from the United States, EU countries, Canada, Australia, Norway, Ukraine, Albania, Montenegro, Iceland and other countries. Food embargo can be extended to goats, lamb, eggs, meat, canned fish and olives

Executive Director of «Soyuzmoloko» Artem Belov commented that the Association sees serious risks in limiting the supply of goods for baby food, lactose-free milk, fillers for yoghurts, technical ingredients (whey protein concentrate and others), vitamin and mineral complexes.

— A significant volume of products for these items is imported, and for such items as breast milk substitute, dependence on imports remains at the level of up to 90%. We are afraid that the expansion of the embargo may have a negative impact on consumer demand, as well as on the stability of Russian producers and the possibility of exporting products with high added value, — said Belov.

The embargo complicates business — this point of view is expressed by General Director and founder of CJSC «Umalat» Alexey Martynenko.

— I am against any prohibitions, so I think that the expansion of the list of products under the embargo will affect the market, but it is unclear how. For example, you need to buy salt or starter enzymes for the production of cheese, but this is impossible — the product is under embargo, and there are no analogues. Such things complicate the business, — said Martynenko.

For the first time a ban on the supply of certain products from the US, EU and other countries was introduced in 2014 in response to sanctions against Russia. The list included some meat, fish and dairy products.

We will remind, in 2018 the Federal customs service revealed 7.2 thousand tons of sanctions products, of which 4.7 thousand tons were destroyed.
