50.4% of Ukrainians support the right to sell land, – poll

 

Half of Ukraine’s population believes that a person should have the right to sell their land freely.  This can be seen from the results of a poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

28% of Ukrainians (and 33% of land owners) do not support the right to sell land.  Another 21% of Ukrainians do not have their own opinion on this.

Among the urban residents 51% support the right of land owners to sell it  (against are 27%).  Among the villagers – 46% and 35% respectively. In regional terms, more support to landlord’s right to sell land is shown in the Western Region (62% for and 14% against), and least in Donbass (44%, 43%).

A third of Ukrainian citizens (33%) are convinced that land cannot be a sale object in principle, while only 8% believe that land should be freely available without any restrictions.

Among the owners of land shares, the majority – 51% of those surveyed – lease their land plots (40% lease it officially, and 11% informally, without relevant documents issued).

In the case the moratorium was lifted, 48% of landowners responded that they would not take any action, only 7% were going to sell the land or part of the land, and 4% – on the contrary, would buy more land.

The survey was conducted from June 13 to June 20, 2019 in all regions of Ukraine except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the occupied territories of Donets’k and Lugans’k regions.  2017 respondents of age 18+ were interviewedr.  The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.
