Plant-based milk alternatives disrupt dairy

The humble oat doesn’t exactly ooze Instagrammable cool. Yet it is fast becoming the star in trendy coffee shops, favoured by baristas as their faux milk of choice thanks to its «mouthfeel», taste and ability to foam and be swirled into «latté art». Demand for alternatives to dairy has accelerated over the past...

Higher dairy returns now at risk, reveals new report

Milk prices — and therefore farm returns — have improved sharply over the past year but higher feed costs pose a risk, according to new analysis. The Dairy Costings Focus from Kingshay, an independent dairy specialist, reveals that average margins over purchased feed increased from 16.83p/litre last year to 21.21p/litre in the year to March 20...

Rumen health: Key for high productive cows

Since high productive cows depend highly on the rumen efficiency, every challenge, such as heat stress, has to be compensated by (nutritional) management. One of the nutritional solutions can be found in an effective rumen buffer supplement. Different factors can bring a healthy rumen into a stressful condition. However, a too low drop in rumen pH which causes rumen acidosis, has the biggest impact. Rumen acidosis...

Milk prices monitoring. July 2018

The demand for Extra is noted in the price, which has increased by 0.13 UAH per month. The average price for milk in July of this grade was 8.98 UAH , including VAT. This w...

Rumen efficiency: 9 animal indicators

Ruminant experts have defined a set of indicators to help evaluate the efficiency of the rumen on-farm: the Rumen Efficiency Investigation (REI). Here we take a closer look at 4 of them and explain how supplemental yeast can benefit the rumen. The goal of the REI is to help producers and nutritionists assess feed efficiency in real life working farm conditions. The REI is a holistic approach based on the a...

Milk production on the rise

Winter planting is nearly complete in Australia. Many areas in the West have received good rainfall, supporting the crops growth. It remains uncertain what will result in currently drier central regions. Dairy Producers with fewer than 300 cow herds (about one half of Australian Dairy Producers) are advocating to receive higher milk pay prices and are asking Fonterra for a more equitabl...

A short-term boost to the New Zealand dairy sector is possible as the US-China trade war escalates, but the industry is predicting long term pain. The administration of US President Donald Trump fired the first shot on Friday, putting tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods, provoking Beijing to do likewise. Rad...

Food embargo is extended until the end of 2019
